Piero Figura Biography
Piero Figura was born in Brindisi in 1963. He graduated in Architecture in Rome and began his career as a designer in Milan, where he also became a professor of scenography at the Faculty of Architecture. However, his passion for art began much earlier, since he was around 5-6 years old, when he started painting at home. Around the age of 15 the first oil paintings on canvas began to appear. Painting is not only his first love, but it is the great passion that has always accompanied him. Added to this is also the design, in which he enjoys playing with materials, enhancing those considered "poor" and creating a contrast with the precious ones. This turns out to be one of the few constants within the works of an artist who uniquely combines classical and pop styles. Precisely because of this peculiarity, Piero Figura is nicknamed the "Dalì of the Navigli" by a Panorama journalist, a title he bears proudly, without any embarrassment. In the 1990s he began his fruitful collaboration with Atena, which consolidated Piero Figura's name through several successful collections, whose works were sold by Gregory's, Cambi, Christie's and Sotheby's. About ten years ago, he began collaborating with Gianni Seguso, a collaboration that led to the creation of two Murano glass collections and which will soon see the light of a third collection.
