Louis Finson was a Flemish painter, born in Bruges before 1580. Between 1604 and 1612, he stayed in Naples and there he became acquainted with the painting of Caravaggio. Thanks to this meeting, Finson became one of the first Flemish Caravaggesques, so much so that copies and imitations are attributed to him by the master. Subsequently, from 1613, he moved to Provence where he worked in Marseille and Aix, mainly executing portraits and religious paintings. From 1616 he settled in Amsterdam and was involved in the art trade. Finson died there in 1617.
