Candido Fior Biography

Candido Fior was born in San Martino di Lupari, in the province of Padua, in 1942 and completed his education in Venice, at the Carmini Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts. At just twenty years old he made his debut by participating in the 1962 Venice Biennale. Starting from the beginning of the 1960s he collaborated with various Venetian ceramic factories including that of Alessio Tasca in Nove and in the early 1970s he opened his own factory in his hometown, where the normal small series production of furnishing objects was accompanied by creation of sculptures and unique pieces, as well as the design of designer ceramics for the industry. In 1972 he was present at the Venice Biennale and the following year he was at the Milan Art Triennale where he also presented his works in '81 and '87. In 1986 he was present at the International Collection of Contemporary Art Ceramics in Castelli. At the beginning of the 1980s he opened his own studio in via Michelangelo 31, in San Martino a Lupari, where the artist created delicate terracottas with barely visible shapes and subtle colours, unique pieces or in small series, made by hand molding into shapes of plaster and finally fired at low temperatures.
