Giosetta Fioroni Biography

Giosetta Fioroni (Rome 1932) Born to a family of artists: her father Mario was a sculptor and her mother Francesca was a painter and skilled puppeteer.

It is a special bond that binds Capitolium Art to the city of Rome: our Roman headquarters is located in Mario Schifano's former studio, a place of great importance for the history of Italian art; Our experts will thus be able to personally and quickly evaluate the artist's works. He exhibited among the first times in 1956 at the Venice Biennale. This will be followed over time by countless solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In the 1960s and 1970s, he created a series of canvases with silver images which gained immediate attention. In 1968 Giosetta temporarily distanced herself from painting and created a performance, The Optical Spy, which inaugurated the Teatro delle Mostre at the Tartaruga Gallery in Rome. In 1969 he also created the first Teatrino, a "toy for adults" in painted wood: through a lens you can look inside an assembly of miniature objects. During the 1970s Giosetta lived for long periods in the countryside, in the Treviso area, together with the writer Goffredo Parise. His interest focuses on the legends of country spirits, dreamlike and visionary stories, from which a series of works dedicated to the world of fairy tales and the rediscovery of childhood was born. In addition to continuing with painting, to which Giosetta still dedicates herself constantly in the large studio-laboratory in Via San Francesco di Sales in Trastevere, the artist arrived at ceramics in 1993, starting to work at the Bottega Gatti in Faenza and which he will increasingly commit himself to the creation of important sculptural cycles. Since the beginning of her work, Giosetta has had constant relationships with writers and poets, including Parise, Ceronetti, Arbasino, Zanzotto, Garboli and many others with whom she has created books, graphic editions and works on paper.
