Carl Fischer was born September 4, 1887 in Vejle County. He specialized in painting landscapes, street scenes, flowers and still lifes, but also distinguished himself in full- and half-length depictions of young women in interior settings. His style was greatly influenced by the French modernists.
Fisher faced serious financial problems, so he produced many paintings that he had to sell cheaply. His friend and fellow painter Peter Hougaard was a major admirer of Fisher's work, helping to create a significant collection of his works.
Fischer died on January 2, 1962.
