Flos Biography
FLOS SpA (from the Latin flower) is an Italian company founded in Merano in 1962 and specialized in lighting systems. Flos, one of the leading companies in its sector, acquired "Antares" in 2005, a Spanish company leader in the production of architectural lighting fixtures (now known as FLOS Architectural). In 2007 Flos created “Professional Space” in Milan; a space designed for architects and designers where you can directly experience the various lighting performances of the company's various products in a real context, observing the scenographic behavior of the light in the environment. FLOS USA is part of the FLOS Group and offers lighting products in the United States. The company, an ordinary member of the Associazione Imprese Italiane Alta Gamma, celebrated its first 50 years in 2012 at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan, on the occasion of the Fuorisalone 2012. In September 2014, Andrea Bonomi's private equity fund Investindustrial acquired the '80% of Flos. The rest of the capital goes to the Gandini and Rodriquez families, Federico Martinez Weber also becomes a partner. In 2015 FLOS took over Lukas Lighting based in New York. In the same year he took over the Italian Ares, a Brianza company specialized in the production of outdoor lighting fixtures, a sector in which Flos was not present. The head of Ares, Ambrogio Strano, remains at the helm of the company and also becomes a minority shareholder of Flos. In February 2017, Flos agreed with Jason Brackenburg to acquire KKDC France, the distribution company in the French market of the Korean KKDC, specialized in the production of high-end linear LEDs for the architectural sector. The new company is called Flos Project and will be led as CEO by Brackenburg himself.
