Giovanni Fontana (Frosinone, 1946) is a polyartist. He has experience in visual arts, architecture, theatre, literature, music, but the privileged territory of his work is that of intermedial writing. In 1963 he held his first solo exhibition (Galleria "La Saletta", Frosinone), in which, illustrating fantasy genre stories, he experimented with the possibilities of connection between literature and the figurative arts. Starting from the mid-sixties he gained experience with theater groups in Frosinone. In this context he works several times as an actor. In 1968 he founded a small experimental company, which later transformed into a cultural association for theatrical research: “Teatro Nuova Dimensione”. He wrote texts for the theater and also worked as a set designer and musician. His first verbo-visual writings date back to the years 1966-1968 and developed in parallel with the sound experiments on magnetic tape which were also used in the theater (1968-1972).
