The France & Son company was founded in 1948 by Charles France and Eric Daverkosen. In 1957, Charles' son James decided to change the name of the company to France & Son. Initially they dedicated themselves to the production of mattresses, but soon their focus shifted to the production of furniture. In 1952, they moved to a new facility in Hillerod, becoming one of the first Danish furniture manufacturers to have a factory specifically built for their needs. France & Son became a pioneer in Danish modern design and collaborated with designers such as Finn Juhl to create pieces made from teak. The company introduced the use of a saw with a tungsten carbide alloy blade for cutting teak and designed its products so that they could be disassembled easily in order to reduce transportation costs. In 1967, the company was sold to Poul Cadovius, who renamed it Cado and continued producing furniture for another ten years.
