Franko B Biography
Franko B, named Franco Bosisio, was born in Milan in 1960 but moved to England to study art at Camberwell College of Arts and Chelsea College of Art until 1999. He began his artistic experimentations in 1990, using various media including video, photography, painting, sculpture and performance. Franko B has become a key figure in the world of contemporary performance art using body and blood as founding elements of his poetics. His performances often include self-inflicted wounds, scars and the loss of consciousness, leading bystanders to move along subtle boundaries between pain and enjoyment, eroticism and disgust, poetry and self-harm. Franko B's art has a strong focus on the human body as a place where human obsessions reside. The work of art, therefore, ceases to be separated from the physical sensations experienced and the artist's skin becomes a social body, at the same time an instrument of denunciation and a canvas on which to paint the imbalances and the dark side of human nature. His performances are mystical rituals that use blood as a representation of the lifeblood that animates the human essence. The artist aims to provoke the public with disturbing visions and elicit uncontrollable emotional responses, such as fear, panic and annoyance, to make the unbearable in society bearable. His art makes spectators look at his representations with difficulty, but they cannot take their eyes away.
