Celestino Fumagalli was born on 25 March 1864 in Turin and spent most of his life in this city. He was a very talented sculptor who trained under the guidance of Leonardo Bistolfi. His work is considered by many to be an anticipation of the Liberty movement in Italy.
Fumagalli's artistic career was extremely fruitful; he created many public monuments including the copper statue positioned on top of the Mole Antonelliana in Turin, one of his most famous works. Another of his important works was the monument to the Fallen of Pinerolo. In addition to sculpture, the artist also successfully dedicated himself to goldsmithing, producing works of great value.
Fumagalli was undoubtedly one of the protagonists of the Turin Liberty movement.
He died in Milan on 10 November 1941.
