(Turin 1871 - there 1938) Gabinio began his activity as an amateur photographer in the 1890s, dedicating himself mainly to mountain photography. From the first decades of activity, Gabinio's gaze was turned to the extra-urban reality of the valleys around Turin, as well as to monumental emergencies and the first signs of nascent industrialization. In the 1920s he created some of the images to which he owes his notoriety: these are photographs that extensively document the city of Turin and fully express the author's technical skills and artistic sensitivity. Gabinio follows the urban transformations phase by phase, marking, with his work, the crucial transition from the nineteenth-century culture of the optical image to the new vision of the modern. His photographs are fascinating and rigorous, playing on light relationships between almost immaterial surfaces and clear and rigorous signs, which lend themselves well to figurative and artistic invention.
