Luigi Gabrielli-Quercita (1790–1854) was an Italian soldier and military writer born in Naples to a family originally from Gubbio. He enlisted in the army at the age of 19 and served under Joachim Murat, the king of the Two Sicilies, until 1815. After the restoration of Ferdinand I, he chose to remain in the army and continued his service.
Despite his hopes for modernization and reform in the Neapolitan society, he became disillusioned with the conservative government policies. He briefly fought in Greece for the country's independence from the Ottoman empire before returning to Italy to rejoin the Neapolitan army.
In the 1820s, Gabrielli began writing and translating military works, advocating for reforms within the army. He translated works such as the Guide des Officiers en Campagne and the Essai général de Tactique. In addition to his military writings, he also wrote poems inspired by political and social events.
Gabrielli passed away in Palermo in 1854 during a cholera outbreak, having reached the rank of colonel. traduci in italiano
