Bruno Galbiati Biography

Bruno Galbiati (1939 – 2001) was born in Portici, Naples in 1939. A pupil of the sculptor Lelio Galli, he graduated in sculpture from the Magisterium of Art of Naples in 1958. Since 1960 he has been actively present in national and international artistic life. Having approached the world of poetry and prose, in the early 1960s, he began to write but his works remained completely unpublished. From 1967 to 1974 he was cultural director of the Visual Information Educational Laboratory of the Carolina Gallery in Portici, a significant experience among the few self-managed Italian galleries. In 1968, together with Eciancia, Maione and Zoleo, he formed the Gruppo Studio Portici in which the interaction of various languages and spatial-environmental research were the operational prerequisites. Towards the end of the 70s he discovered the fascination of the encounter between sculpture and painting. Since 1978 he has been actively involved in the National Federation of Visual Arts where he retains the position of member of the General Council. He is among the promoters of the "Napoli 50/ottanta project" and a member of the secretariat. He died in Portici in the summer of 2000. Among his most significant of a dense production of plastic works, we remember the War Memorial for Piazza Trieste in Ercolano in 1963 and the sculptural work for the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa di Portici, Naples in 1996.
