Émile Gallé, born on 4 May 1846 in Nancy, was a French glass craftsman and designer, known for being an exponent of art nouveau. Thanks to his experience acquired in his father's ceramic and glass factory and his studies in botany and mineralogy, Gallé achieved results of great technical and formal value. He experimented with new pastes and glazes of great richness of colour, creating zoomorphic and phytomorphic decorative motifs. In addition to his activity in the production of glass and ceramic objects, including industrially, Gallé dedicated himself to the design of furniture.
He died on September 23, 1904 in Nancy.
