Giuseppe Gambarini was born on 17 March 1680. He began working in the workshop of Lorenzo Pasinelli, and then moved to the workshop of Benedetto Gennari, nephew of Guercino, where he mainly learned genre painting. However, due to the lack of precise chronological references regarding his pictorial production, it is difficult to reconstruct his artistic career. It is assumed that he began as a figure artist for perspective decorations and, in his early works, he demonstrates a strong naturalistic inclination of Guercino influence.
Giuseppe Gambarini died on 11 September 1725 in Palazzo Sampieri in Casalecchio di Reno, near Bologna.
