Bruno Gambone Biography
Bruno Gambone was born in Vietri sul Mare, in the province of Salerno, on 18 October 1936. He approached the world of ceramics for a short period at the age of 14 in his father's Florentine atelier. Towards the end of the 1950s, still remaining in the Tuscan capital, he collaborated in Andrea D'Arienzo's factory. Determined to work and establish himself independently, he also dedicated himself to other artistic experiences such as fabric decoration and painting on canvas. His first exhibition of paintings, held in Florence at the Galleria La Strozzina, dates back to 1959. In 1963 he moved to the United States, settling for a few years in New York. Here he frequented artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, gaining numerous experiences in the fields of painting, sculpture, cinema and theatre. After five years he returns to Italy. The city in which he chooses to reside is Milan. In the Lombard capital he came into contact with various artists such as Enrico Castellani, Lucio Fontana, Paolo Scheggi, Agostino Bonalumi and Gianni Colombo. In 1969, following the death of his father, in order not to leave his laboratory inactive, he returned to the ceramic sector. Since then he has continuously carried out intense work in Florence, evidenced by the production of works of great interest. Sometimes he also dealt with other sectors of the applied arts such as glass. In fact, he undertook collaborations with some glassware factories in Colle VaI D'Elsa at the beginning of the 1980s. He then continued this experience in some Venetian laboratories, designing a series of furnishing objects such as lamps and tables.
