Gavino Ganau Biography
Gavino Ganau (1966 - ) was born in Tempio Pausania in 1966. His first exhibition was held in 1998 in Bologna: Exit, curated by Edoardo Di Mauro, a survey of the creative methods in visual art of the late nineties. The solo show at the MAN in Nuoro dates back to 2001, then directed by Cristiana Collu as part of the MANovre exhibition. In that period he began working with various critics (Claudia Colasanti, Luca Beatrice, Gianluca Marziani, Maurizio Sciaccaluga, Antonio Arévalo, Chiara Argenteri, Davide Mariani, Roberta Vanali, Valentina Scanu, Anna Rita Punzo, Sonia Borsato, Mariolina Cosseddu, Alessandra Menesini, Micaela Deiana, Giannella Demuro and others) who curate it in collective and personal exhibitions in good galleries and situations. He has participated in various institutional exhibitions and awards, including: “Insulae Creative Turbulences” and “URBS”, curated by the Bartoli Felter foundation of Cagliari, “Arte e Sud”, “Human@art”, “Arte Italiana” in Dubai . He was a finalist for the IV Cairo Prize, the Lissone Prize, and the Celeste Prize. He participates, with his galleries, in various contemporary art fairs (Miart Milan, Riparte Rome and Genoa, Arte Padova, Vicenza Arte and Bologna Flash Art Show. His painting has been fueled by the comparison with mass media languages and icons popular of contemporary times. In this phase the works fall into different thematic strands, he creates more or less complex compositions where, through the use of filmic and photographic frames, he creates a poetically felt unicum. He then abandons the use of images of the star system, or in any case provided by the media system, to focus on ordinary people absorbed in their own thoughts and caught in disparate environments: interiors, metropolitan spaces and of an anthropomorphized nature. He lives and works in Sassari.
