Alfredo Gatto Biography
Alfredo Gatto (1958 - ) was born in Avellino in 1958 into a family of artists and continued in his father's footsteps for the first periods of his apprenticeship. Subsequently, no longer content with describing his emotions in an almost realistic way, he experiments with new approaches with informal art. In recent periods he also combines the informal with poor materials according to the application on a surface of scraps of paper, fabric, various materials, as elements of a pictorial composition. Collage is used by maestro Gatto, during his experimentation, with book pages, musical scores, newspaper fragments and completes the work with oil and acrylic interventions or other techniques. He creates works of various types of materials, ranging from "poor" materials to vegetable fabrics and metal sheets. The sack paintings with the intervention of various materials from common life are interesting and unique. In the following years he dedicated meticulous and deeper research to poor and waste "rare" materials, chosen with extreme wisdom. Through these elements he manifested "yuta, sack, iron, coal, sand, tar, cement” his inner world inspired by the essentiality of the work and inner spirituality. Currently, after a series of exhibitions and participation in the most varied national and international competitions, he works between his hometown Avellino and Rome.
