Otto Gebler, born in Dresden on 18 September 1838, was a German painter specializing in the representation of animals. He began his artistic career at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and subsequently at the Munich Academy, where he was able to approach the work of Karl Theodor von Piloty. Most of his artistic studies focused on the depiction of sheep, and his ability to embody the character of these animals was highly appreciated by experts. Otto Gebler used bright coloring in his works which allowed him to create a very realistic and detailed rendering of nature. The artist died in Munich on 30 January 1917.
