Jasper Geerards, was born around 1620 in Antwerp and died between 1649 and 1654 in Amsterdam. A Flemish painter, Geerards trained at the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp, in 1634. Not much is known about his life, but sources report that he specialized in still lifes. The works attributed to him are few and it is not easy to establish the evolution of his style. His works are signed with J or Jasper Geerards. We are aware of his death which occurred between August 1649, when he reported the theft of one of his works from his Amsterdam studio, and 19 October 1654, when his wife was declared a widow in a notarial deed.
