Cesare Gennari was born in Cento on 12 December 1637. After completing his first studies, he became passionate about the art of painting and received lessons from his uncle Guercino, whose style he imitated. Thanks to his abilities, many of Gennari's works have been erroneously attributed to Guercino. Upon the Master's death, which occurred at the end of 1666, Gennari inherited the goods and the workshop together with his brother Benedetto. Cesare Gennari died on 11 February 1688.
