Eugenio Gentili Tedeschi Biography

Eugenio Gentili Tedeschi was born in Turin in 1916. The same age as Franco Momigliano, of whom he was a close friend, he graduated in architecture and left Turin to start a promising career in Milan, joining Giò Ponti's studio. After 8 September he took refuge with his parents in La Salle, in the Aosta Valley. Arrested, he was locked up in the Aosta prison from 13 June to 17 July 1944 and was fortunately freed thanks also to the help of Carla Consonni. Immediately after his release he began his partisan life, joining the Arturo Verraz gang in the Cogne valley, where a "republic" was born that lasted longer than the much better known one in Ossola. Euge took care of the food and the design of weapons: thanks to the steel mills and coal quarries there was an abundance of metal, explosives and machinery. The gang was subjected to a heavy roundup on 2 November 1944 and Euge, together with some companions, manages to escape to France, from there he is sent on a mission to Rome. He married Isolda Felici in 1947. After the war he set up his own business as an architect and among his works we can mention the QT8, the rebuilding of the Temple in via Guastalla and the Jewish school in via Sally Mayer. He died in Milan in 2005.
