Gerico Biography
Gerico was born in Somma Lombardo (Varese) on 13 June 1946. Self-taught, in 1968, with "in search of the aesthetic ghost", he entered the arduous profession of painter. In the 70s he felt attracted by the themes connected to relationships in the world of consumption, with "nature/man/machine" (the product that slowly absorbs the producer) he continued his research until 1981 concluding with a large exhibition in the Rotta gallery in Genoa. After a sabbatical year, since 1982 his painting changes iconographic level with "Museo Vivo", works based on the scenographic revival (by extension) of passages of ancient painting; the traveling exhibition “Magie” curated by Prof. Riccardo Barletta is significant. In 1990 with "Nature in pose" exhibition curated by prof. Floriano De Santi, Gerico enters into the proposition of elements of nature created with maximum realism combined with maximum artificiality, an experience that he still cultivates today. Since 1997, in addition to his personal career, he has collaborated with the painters Edi Brancolini, Danilo fusi and Impero Nigiani in the staging of traveling exhibitions, including: "Four painters with a crystalline gaze" curated by Prof. Giorgio Di Genova; “Ultimate Navigation”, exhibition on the Divine Comedy on the occasion of the Jubilee 2000, curated by Prof. Giorgio Segato (Palazzo Pio, Carpi / Expo-Arte, Bari / Museo S.Rocco, Padua/Sala dell'Annunciata, Pavia/Palazzo Ducale, Pavullo nel Frignano / Limonaia Villa Strozzi, Florence / Gizzi Castle, Torre dei Passeri, Pescara). “LaVita Nova” in 2003 (the only complete visual interpretation of this Dante work) curated by Prof. Carlo Fabrizio Carli (Palazzo Firenze, Rome / Museo Fortunato Bellonzi, Pescara). In 2006 at the “Casa di Dante in Abruzzo” Foundation they presented “Dante and Ovid” (Ovidian sources in the Divine Comedy) curated by Prof. Corrado Gizzi. From 2006 to 2010, Gerico personally dedicated himself to the interpretation of Ovid's Metamorphoses. In 2011 he was present at the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in the Milan and Turin locations, curated by Prof. Vittorio Sgarbi. In 2014 in the Visconti Castle of Voghera, he exhibited with De Chirico and Ciro Palumbo in the exhibition: “3 Itineraries in the labyrinth of Myth” In forty-nine years of work, Gerico has presented 99 solo exhibitions and numerous participations in Italy and abroad.
