Luigi Gheno was born in Nove in 1930. He completed his studies at the local Art Institute and continued his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Gheno began creating works with an informal and primitivistic flavor after the end of the Second World War, often creating large, unique pieces.
From the mid-1950s, Gheno began teaching art in Comiso, then in Velletri and finally in Rome. In 1956 he participated in the Venice Biennale and that of Gubbio, where he also exhibited in 1958 and 1960. In 1959 he held his first solo exhibition in Milan, at the Galleria Il Prisma. He also exhibited in the Roman Quadrennials of 1960 and 1964.
In 1967, Gheno was awarded the Gold Medal at the Verona Biennale. In the late 1960s, he exhibited his works in Cologne, Amsterdam and Brussels. In 1979, he became a teacher at the Brera Academy and in 1989 he was elected member of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca. Gheno continued to create art until his death in 2018.
