Alberto Gianquinto Biography
Alberto Gianquinto (Venice, 29 March 1929 – Jesolo, 17 May 2003) was an Italian painter. Originally from Paceco in the province of Trapani, he was born on 29 March 1929 in Venice and graduated in Economics and Commerce at Ca' Foscari. In 1954 he exhibited la Masa at the Bevilacqua Foundation, winning first prize. His first solo exhibition dates back to 1957, at the Galleria del Cavallino in Cardazzo. The following year he again won the first prize of Bevilacqua la Masa. He was invited to the Venice Biennale in 1956 and 1962 with a group of works and, in 1978, with a personal room. He was part of the group "Il pro e il Contro", with the painters Attardi, Calabria, Farulli, Guerreschi, Guccione and Vespignani and the art critics Antonio Del Guercio, Dario Micacchi and Morosini. linked to the area of so-called 'existential realism'. He was present at the Roman Quadrennial in 1959, 1965, 1969 and 1987. In 1963 one of his works was exhibited at the Contemporary Italian Paintings exhibition, held in some Australian cities. In 1963-64 he exhibited at the exhibition Peintures italiennes d'aujourd'hui, organized in the Middle East and North Africa. In 1988 he collaborated with the painter Natale Addamiano for the realization of a project for the municipality of Polcenigo. In 2005 he was remembered with a retrospective at the Correr Museum. A first general catalog of his work was released in 2012. In 2017 he was remembered with an exhibition at the Covento del Carmine in Marsala.
