Mario Giovanardi (1948 -) was born in Modena in 1948, where he lives and works. Under the guidance of Pompeo Vecchiati and Enzo Trevisi he began his artistic training at the 'A.Venturi' art high school in Modena, which he subsequently completed by graduating from the Magisterium of Art in Florence. A prolific and multifaceted painter, he boasts numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad and his works are present in the most important public and private collections. Giovanardi proceeds in his artistic work through long pictorial cycles. His is an autologous expressive language, evolved and mediated by an abstract expressionism, more distinctly of Northern European origin. In terms of the emotional impact, predominant in Giovanardi's work, it seems to be the painting itself that celebrates itself and confronts itself with its own greatness; replacing in the semantics of correspondences, the figure of the artist and the landscape typical of the romantic paintings of the past; by Turner and Friedrich.
