Giovanni D'Erba learned the art of the ancient craft of the basket maker and, more than a century ago, founded his own company. He soon expanded production to include armchairs, lounges and furnishing elements. Success came quickly with international recognition in 1909 in London and Paris, followed by others in 1910 in Rome. He also obtained important orders, such as the supply for the prestigious Grand Hotel Villa d'Este in Cernobbio (Como).
The company continued to furnish patrician villas during the 1940s and became the main Italian manufacturer of rattan and wicker woven furniture.
