Mario Girolami (1914 - 1994) was a director and screenwriter, author of dozens of 'Italian comedies'. After studying at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, he worked as an assistant director with Mario Soldati and Renato Castellani. He made his directorial debut in 1949 with 'La strada buia', made with the collaboration of Sidney Saikow. Subsequently he directed a series of comedies starring Walter Chiari including 'Era lui sia', 'You know that the poppies...', 'Era lei che la wanted lo'. As an author he wrote the story of 'Campo dei Fiori', starring Anna Magnani and Aldo Fabrizi. In the '50s and '60s Girolami created around a hundred comedies, some of which were box office hits: 'The Girl from Via Veneto', 'When Angels Cry', 'These Crazy, Crazy Women'. He is also the director of films starring Claudio Villa such as 'Serenade for 16 Blondes' and 'There's a Path in the Cycle'. In the mid-eighties he decided to retire from cinema. He died in Rome after a short illness.
