Moreno Goca Biography
Moreno Goca (1961 - ) was born on December 8, 1961 in Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil. He began to be interested in drawing as a teenager and in 1980 he moved to Salvador, where he began studying art at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Bahia, graduating in 1986. During his five years of studies, he worked in the studio of sculptor Mario Cravo Jr., as his assistant, collaborating in the execution of the "Cristo de Vitoria da Conquista", in 1980, in the "Memorial a Cléristom Andrade", in 1983, in the "orixás" for the new post office of Salvador and others large and small projects. From 1982 to 1986 he participated in several collective exhibitions and national salons, in Bahia and other states of Brazil, winning some prizes. In 1986, after this period full of learning and influences, he returned to Ilhéus, where he opened his atelier and began producing his own sculptures. In this period he worked intensively on scrap iron, resin, stone and wood. In 1994 he began working with wooden and painted resin reliefs, creating panels for hotels, medical clinics, restaurants, palace lobbies and public buildings in the cities of Ilhéus, Itabuna and Salvador. In 1997 he began his pictorial activity, expressing the colors of his land and its carnival. He has works in private collections in the United States, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and several states of Brazil. Moreno continues to live and work in Ilhéus.
