Nan (or Nancy) Goldin (Washington, September 12, 1953) is an American photographer. Nan Goldin is part of the Five of Boston and her work is considered relevant in contemporary photography, like Terry Richardson and Wolfgang Tillmans. Nan Goldin was born in Washington in 1953 but grew up in Boston, where she attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She has lived in New York since 1978, where she has established herself as one of the greatest exponents of an art in favor of a complete identification between art and life. Since the age of eighteen she has used photography as a "public diary", which is why Nan Goldin's work is inseparable from her life. Marked by the suicide of her eighteen-year-old sister Barbara Holly on 12 April 1965, it was precisely by photographing her family that she began her photographic work. Later she remained very close to the family album both in terms of technique and the subjects chosen.
