Milan Goldschmiedt Biography

Milan Goldschmiedt's journey began in Zagreb, his hometown, fifty-nine years ago. His first experiences took place in the field of illustration, caricature and comics, where, in addition to the certainty of his lines, that streak of surreal humor that would characterize his future work was highlighted. In 1949 he joined the group of artists of Duga Film, which will later become the famous school of modern animated film. He will continue this activity in Milan, in the United States and in other parts of the world, integrating these tests with important experiences in theatrical scenography and above all in advertising graphics. Having come to Italy in 1952, after having wandered around various countries, Goldschmiedt actively dealt with advertising graphics, both with his own studio and as a freelancer. In the role of art director he created numerous important works with various leading companies operating in various fields. In 1974 Milan Goldschmiedt decided, definitively, to dedicate himself entirely to painting, which from then on would become the fundamental aim of his artistic life. Goldschmiedt's painting brings the wealth of knowledge acquired in many different experiences. A singular trait consists in the fact that, contrary to what often happens in this art, the author starts from an expression of essentiality bordering on the abstract to gradually develop a more marked propensity for the story, for the metaphor, for the content, albeit tempered by a careful balance between the "history" and its idealized representation. In 2006 there will be a resumption of sculptural activity with bronze castings.
