(Turin, 16 December 1808 – Giaveno, 14 September 1889). His specialization was in portraits of a historical genre and in engravings for illustrations of literary works. Numerous of his portraits, historical paintings and frescoes are found in the various residences of the Savoy and in some churches in Turin. One of his works entitled "La Rocca di Sapay near Viù (Rock with pasture)", dated 1850, is permanently exhibited at the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin. Francesco Gonin is also known for having illustrated The Betrothed of Alessandro Manzoni. His works can be seen at the Manzonian Civic Museum at Caleotto Lecco in room IX of the Quarantana, the editio princeps of the Betrothed published in 1840.
