Raffaello Gori Biography

Raffaello Gori (Pistoia 1936) Painter and designer, lives and works in Prato. Graduated in advertising graphics at the Accademia Cappiello in Florence in 1969, he began exhibiting in personal and collective exhibitions in 1972. After a period of research into figurative imprinting, his work took place in the context of purist abstraction leading to monochrome. The conceptual intuition comes by turning the canvas upside down and identifying the versatility of the support medium to discover further communicative potential. The white tissue paper glued to the wood of the painted canvas, then the use of transparent plastic and "polystyrene", a mirrored plastic material. In 1986 his painting is arranged through a language that relies on heat and chalky magmaticity as well as objects trouvès: cardboard, wood, doors, windows, construction waste, shreds of antique carpets, dinghies, printing plates, etc. Until rediscovering in the 1990s the initial stylistic features (white, pink, yellow) of the lightness of transparent surfaces translated into a spatial objectivity that takes into account the place through chromatic variables based on diaphanous natural and artificial lights. He has participated in numerous personal and collective exhibitions.
