Gramigna Giuliana & Mazza Sergio Biography
Sergio Mazza and Giuliana Gramigna Sergio Mazza (1931 - ) was born in 1931 in Milan, where he graduated in architecture. He opened the studio in 1955, dedicating himself to residential construction, interior architecture and, subsequently, design. He wins the competition organized by the X Triennale with the project of a telephone booth; receives the Silver Medal at the XI Triennale. In 1959 he founded Artemide, with Ernesto Gismondi; his and the Alfa lamp, the first, followed by Tau, in the same year, and Delta, in 1960, which received the Compasso d'Oro nomination. Giuliana Gramigna (1929 - 2016) was born in 1929 in Milan. He graduated in architecture and, in 1961, joined Sergio Mazza. For Arflex, in the same year, they designed a table and chair. They collaborate with Cinova, Bacci, Poltrona Frau, Full, Quattrifolio, Olivari. From 1964, the Medea reinforced resin armchair and the Ciceri steel bed for Artemide. From 1966 to 1988 Sergio Mazza was director of "Ottagono", which was awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1979, the year of the Compasso d'Oro nomination for the Poker armchair produced by Cinova. Objects designed by them are present at the MOMA in New York and at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Giuliana published Repertory of domestic furnishings 1950-2000 for Mondadori (recommendation for the “Compasso d'Oro” award) and, in collaboration with Fulvio Irace, the volume Osvaldo Borsani for Leonardo-De Luca publisher. From 1966 to 1988 she was editor of the magazine "Ottagono". He died in Milan in 2016.
