Giovanni Guarlotti was a well-known Italian painter born in Galliate, in the province of Novara, in 1869 and died in Turin in 1954. He studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin under the guidance of PC Gilardi, A. Marchisio and D. Cosola.
Guarlotti exhibited mainly in Turin, both at the Promotrice, presenting "the Portrait of the Mother" in 1894, and at the Artists' Club starting from 1896. In 1898 he participated in the Exhibition of Sacred Art with the painting "The Martyr of Golgotha" .
He maintained an impressionist style, unchanged compared to the artistic currents of the time. Guarlotti painted landscapes of the Ticino in Galliate, of the Lanzo and Susa Valleys, of the Aosta Valley, also executing portraits such as "The Self-portrait" of 1895 and figures such as "La Cieca" of 1901, now preserved in the Galleria Civica d 'Modern Art of Turin.
Guarlotti usually dedicated himself to the representation of herds and pastures, demonstrating that he had particular sensitivity for rural life and the world of the humble.
