Oddino Guarnieri Biography

Oddino Guarnieri (Adria, province of Rovigo, 4 April 1932 - Mestre, 13 December 2015) He began his artistic career as a self-taught artist until he was a teenager, also with the help of the painter Ugo Boccato, a family friend. After the Polesine flood in 1951 he moved to Venice where he learned the profession of restorer with the prof. Pedrocco. At the same time, Guarnieri took part in painting courses with the masters Cadorin and Cesetti at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In 1958, he took part in the exhibition Young Italian Painters in Paris. In 1961 the collaboration with Emilio Vedova began. He was awarded in 1962 by the magazine Le Arti together with the painter Scanavino. With the latter Guarnieri is present in the Milanese art scene with Fontana, Crippa and Dova. In 1965, winning first prize for painting at the opera Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, he obtained a studio in Palazzo Carminati. In the 1960s he collaborated with the Dialettica delle Tendenze group with various exhibitions in many Italian cities. He exhibits mainly in Milan (Galleria delle Ore, Schettini, Medea) and Venice where he began his collaboration with Gianni De Marco of Galleria Il Traghetto. In 1967 he collaborated with the Venetian Artists Group for a silk-screen portfolio, which was then exhibited in various Italian cities and in Ljubljana. In 1970 Guarnieri was invited by the critic Marchiori to the Ramazzotti Prize in Milan. In the same year he was reported by the critic Apollonio in the Bolaffi national catalog of modern art. Among others, Apollonio, Branzi, Budda, Cara, Guidi, Marchiori, Marussi, Minassian, Rizzi, Toniato, Valsecchi have written about his work. His works can be found in public and private collections in Italy and abroad and also at the International Gallery of Modern Art in Cà Pesaro, Venice. The art critic Alain Chivilò, on the occasion of the Maestro's birthday, wrote: "Oddino Guarnieri passed the threshold of eighty a few months ago. Born in Adria in 1932, now with a fighting spirit, among the thousand states of soul present, traces with freshness the history of Italian informal art. It was Emilio Vedova who appreciated and highlighted his talent as a colorist, because he was and is able to insert points of color in the right compositional moment. Here in this area for Oddino the black color to be used does not have to be black, because it is humanized with the inclusion of the red color. A balance and a refined touch always present in his works. A press given by Virgilio Guidi marks the beginning of composition in Venetian art, passing for the informal period, the geometric with the phase he called anguishing of Milan, the Amazons to get to the latest collages of paper and color matter, he interpreted these during the struggles of the late Sixties and Seventies, in the Robot cycle and depicted the worker as a person, not human, transformed into a robot by the production system: a unit exploited almost gratuitously, without developing intellect and professional skills".
