Costantino Guenzi Biography

Milan (1926 – 1989). Guenzi was an artist who participated in and interpreted post-war Italian and Milanese culture; his work stands out with extraordinary importance alongside the Italian experiences of Morlotti, Milani and Chighine, and in an international situation aware of research such as that of De Stael, Fautrier, Tobey, Hartung and Pollock. Guenzi's work does not limit itself to connecting with informal painting but leaves a personal and new trace, characterized by intense and continuous research. The indications and stimuli that come to the artist from the observation of nature and of the surrounding world have passed through the filter of careful sensitivity and a rich and sedimented culture, determining the magma of his chromatic drafts with intense, deep and wide-ranging tones. The shapes and structures that arise in this incessant creative process are freely and poetically reinvented. The intensity of the oils is matched by the transparency of the gouaches, watercolors and drawings, refined and at the same time robust textures where the sign differentiates itself in a 'wide semantic range, from the scratch to the almost geometric hatching, but always involved.
