Luigi Guerricchio (Matera in 1932-1996) He completed his classical studies at the Liceo-Ginnasio Duni and enrolled in the faculty of Political Sciences in Florence. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and actively participated in the artistic life of the city. In that period he met Rocco Scotellaro who had a great impact on his ideological formation. In 1969, on the occasion of an exhibition that Guerricchio organized in Florence, Guttuso judged him: "...one of the last painters of peasant and mortified Italy". He attended the Brera Academy in Milan and worked intensely for the affirmation of his ideas. He lived his existential itinerary at the service of a poor community, inextricably linked to the land, to the work of the fields. He received the Modigliani prize in Livorno, that of the President of the Republic in Pontedera and participated in numerous exhibitions, including the Quadrennial of Rome, the Venice Biennale, the Intergrafik in Berlin and the Goya exhibition in Vienna.
