Anatole Guillot Biography

Anatole Frédéric Guillot (1865 Étigny - 1911 Paris) was a French sculptor, painter and ceramist.
Guillot was admitted to the École des beaux-arts in Paris in the ateliers of the famous sculptors Alexandre Falguière and Jean Gautherin. Member of the Société des artistes français from 1882 until his death, he worked regularly between 1903 and 1906 for the Manufacture de Sèvres, where he created numerous models of medallions, statuettes and various objects.
Thanks to his notoriety, he has won numerous public commissions for monumental pieces. He was chosen, together with other famous sculptors, to create part of the ceramic friezes of the majestic Concordia Gate which gave access to the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. Eight high reliefs of these friezes were then placed by the famous artist Salvador Dali in the patio of his theater-museum in Figueras in Spain.
He won the competitions for the reproduction of the 14 grandiose balustrade trophies of the central body of the facades overlooking the north and south parterres of the Palace of Versailles, together with his colleagues Edme Marie Cadoux, Henri Varenne and Albert Guilloux.
Guillot also produced orientalist, imaginative statuettes of various personalities or subjects.
