Paolo Guiotto (1934 - ) was born in S.Donà di Piave near Venice in 1934. In Venice he attended the Carmini School of Art and, later, the Academy of Fine Arts. He began to exhibit in Rome in 1960, with a series of images concerning atomic energy. In 1973 he exhibited at the International Biennial of Florence. After having gone through a long season of works, shows and exhibitions in which the main means of expression remained painting, since 1986 he has turned towards sculpture. Important large-scale works of the period are: The absent body, The machine to stop time (1979 – 1980) and Deluminazione ad Ovest (1978 – 1980). Again in 1980 he created the photographic images for a book on NaplesQuelledaughterQuellespose. Works by Paolo Guiotto appear at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Galleria Degli Uffizzi in Florence; Paolo Guiotto also worked as a set designer with Luchino Visconti, designing the costumes, sets and jewels for Richard Strauss' opera Salomé, performed at the Festival deI due Mondi in Spoleto in 1961.
