He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 1974, having mastered painting, printmaking and printmaking during his time in Italy. He became a teaching assistant at Al-Fateh University in Tripoli. Subsequently, Hammouda went to study in Budapest, Hungary, where he earned a Ph.D. Hamouda returned to Libya to work at Al-Fateh University, where he became a well-known professor until his retirement.
