Johann Heiss, born June 19, 1640 in Memmingen and died in February 1704 in Augsburg, was a German painter known for historical, biblical and mythological scenes.
After completing his studies, in 1663 he went to Stuttgart, where he worked in the service of Eberhard III, Duke of Württemberg. Many ecclesiastical works were commissioned from him.
Currently, his works are housed in museums throughout Germany, as well as the Louvre, the Hermitage and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Johann Heiss died in Augsburg in February 1704.
