(Ordrup, 9 September 1894 – Copenhagen, 31 January 1967). Danish architect and designer. In addition to being an architect, he has distinguished himself as a poet, composer, editor, writer, journalist and art critic (he contributed to the magazines Klingens, Politikens, Extra Bladet, directed Kritisk Revy and founded PH Revy). Henningsen, a chain-smoking, left-wing radical who spoke Copenhagen slang, known to friends and adversaries by the acronym PH, was the intellectual voice of Denmark. In 1919 he designed a urinal as an advertising space for the Carlsberg brewery (for which he also designed a candlestick), presented in 1925 at the Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs etindustrials modernis in Paris, together with the lamps of the PH series foreign to the aesthetic line inspired by classicism present in the other objects exhibited in the Danish pavilion, which confirmed the spirit of provocation of the architect who wanted to reform the image of the modern city with his products. His artistic production, however, was inextricably linked to his studies on lighting and the design of interior lamps.
