Mariano Hernandez Biography
Mariano Hernandez (1926 – 2015) was born in Toledo in 1926 and died in Paris in July 2015. He spent his childhood in Argentina where his family arrived in 1930. He lives on the banks of the Rio de la Plata, in Olivos (Buenos Aires). The eldest of a modest family of three children, he learned to bind books at the age of 14 to earn a living. He is, at the same time, librarian at the Popular Library of Olivos. He started painting on his own. Mariano Hernandez has lived and worked in Paris since 1962. In 1967 he traveled for several months: Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia up to the borders of Vietnam and painted in contact with the population. His works can be found in public collections: Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Museum of Modern Art, Buenos Aires; Museum of Modern Art, Havana; Museum of Fine Arts, Algiers; Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris; National Center of Contemporary Art, Paris; Muzej Na Sovremena Umetnost, Skopje; LAAC, Dunkirk (Museum of Contemporary Art).
