David Hicks Biography
David Nightingale Hicks, born 25 March 1929 in Coggeshall, United Kingdom, was a famous English decorator and interior designer. He is known for his ability to use bold colors, combining antique and modern furnishings, and incorporating contemporary art to create unique environments for his celebrity clientele. He completed his studies at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. Hicks' career as a designer and decorator began in the field of graphics, creating designs for cereal boxes. However, his success in the industry was launched by the media notoriety he achieved in 1954, when the British magazine “House & Garden” featured the house he decorated in London, located at 22 South Eaton Place, designed for his mother and him same. Hicks has collaborated with the architectural firm Garnett Cloughley Blakemore (GCB) on several projects, including the creation of a residence in Park Lane for Lord and Lady Londonderry. The GCB studio achieved considerable international fame through the renovation of the Hotel George V in Paris for the Trust House Forte group. In 1967, Hicks expanded his scope of work, beginning to design apartments in Manhattan for an international clientele. David Nightingale Hicks passed away on March 29, 1998, in Brightwell Baldwin, at the age of 69.
