Masuda Hiromi Biography

Hiromi Masuda (Jokohama, 1942) is a Japanese artist. From the age of 39 Hiromi began working with glass. In 2000, for a period, he shaped glass works in Venice, on the island of Murano. Hiromi Masuda's installations are populated with large opaque or transparent glass bubbles of the most disparate and irregular dimensions that invade the space. The Japanese artist creates his bubbles with a breath, giving life each time to fragile and light shapes, but with great visual and emotional impact. His interventions have been exhibited in Italy, Indonesia and Japan. All glass art projects by Japanese artist Masuda are titled “Play the glass”. One of his first installations 'Play the glass' was exhibited in 2003 in the Cloister of San Francesco della Vigna in Venice. The bubbles of colored transparent glass invade the colonnaded portico and the central area of the Renaissance cloister, creating a clear contrast. Hiromi's glass bubbles are also the protagonists of an installation in Jakarta, Indonesia. Here the transparent shapes are placed on long folded plastic bundles that match the same colors as the glass bubbles. In 2010 the artist created numerous installations at the Nitsu Art Museum. His creations invade the museum's entrance hall and the various rooms. In them semi-transparent fabrics fall from the ceiling to join the glass shapes on the ground.
