Anton Hofer was born in Bolzano in 1888 and was a famous artist and designer.
Hofer studied at the Imperial Royal Professional School of Artistic Craftsmanship in Bolzano from 1908 to 1912. Subsequently, he attended Koloman Moser's courses at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts) in Vienna, where he specialized mainly in textile design.
After the war he joined the Wiener Werkstätte, the Viennese manufacturing community founded by Moser together with Josef Hoffmann and Fritz Wärndorfer. Read the full biography

Anton Hofer Biography

Anton Hofer was born in Bolzano in 1888 and was a famous artist and designer.
Hofer studied at the Imperial Royal Professional School of Artistic Craftsmanship in Bolzano from 1908 to 1912. Subsequently, he attended Koloman Moser's courses at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts) in Vienna, where he specialized mainly in textile design.
After the war he joined the Wiener Werkstätte, the Viennese manufacturing community founded by Moser together with Josef Hoffmann and Fritz Wärndorfer. In 1910 he joined the Deutscher Werkbund (the "German Craftsmen's League"). In 1921, he returned and settled in Bolzano, where he worked as a designer of furniture, carpets, posters and tiles, also collaborating with some local factories.
In 1927 he founded his own design company, Hofer-Werke, where he created unique pieces of furniture in the modernist style. During his career, Hofer was also a teacher of industrial design at the Bolzano school of craftsmanship.
He died in Bolzano in 1979.
