Carlo Hollesch (Pula 1926 – Venice 1978). After classical studies completed in Venice, he dedicated himself as a self-taught painter. He took part in numerous national exhibitions, including the Venice Biennials of 1950 and 1954 and several Roman Quadrennials, obtaining widespread critical recognition. He held several personal exhibitions in major Italian cities. Giuseppe Marchiori praised his coherence, his personal language, his colouristic temper, the research which initially led him towards a metaphysical genre of fairy-tale intonation and, in recent years, led him to move away from traditional figuration in the direction of the disintegration of the image.
