Johann Hübner (1668 –1731) was a German geographer, astronomer and professor.
He studied theology, poetry, rhetoric, geography and history at the University of Leipzig. In 1694 he became rector of the Merseburg Gymnasium.
Thanks to one of his publications, the geographical subject began to be taught in schools.
In 1711 he became rector of the Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums in Hamburg.
His children's Bible Biblische Historien (1714) was designed for use in schools.
It was printed in 270 editions and was translated into 15 European languages, becoming "the most popular and best-selling children's Bible of its type."
He created a large number of geographical prints, including planispheres, maps and geographical maps.
