Louis Icart (1888-1950) was a French painter, draftsman, printmaker and illustrator, known for his distinctive pictorial style based on the great 18th-century French masters such as Jean-Antoine Watteau, François Boucher and Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
His drawings were influenced by Edgar Degas and Claude Monet, while his rare watercolors bore traits of the symbolists Odilon Redon and Gustave Moreau.
Icart's work is characterized by a color palette of browns, golds and reds, but his images have become increasingly brighter throughout his career. Most of his depictions of women are sensual.
Icart has made over 500 engravings and illustrated more than 30 books.
